The Elephant in a Room

  • Hotel Elephant 5 Spare Street London, England, SE17 3EP United Kingdom (map)

Friday 9th December: 8am - 11pm

Saturday 10 & Sunday 11th: 9am - 6pm

Third-year BA (Hons) Media and Cultural Studies (now BA (Hons) Contemporary Media Cultures) students at London College of Communication present an exhibition of photography and video exploring the huge changes taking place in the College's Elephant and Castle neighbourhood.

LCC is at the heart of the area as it undergoes a three billion pound regeneration project. The students featured in this exhibition felt it was important to capture the losses and gains of the Elephant before the completion of the Southwark Regeneration Scheme.

In association with the Photography and the Archive Research Centre, University of the Arts London, the students are exhibiting their interpretations of the Elephant through photography and video, offering their individual perspectives on the current surfaces, buildings and public spaces of this area, with the hope that the exhibition will bring locals and students together to reflect on the changes. You are invited to come and experience their visual and sonic exploration of the Elephant, share your stories and celebrate what was and is yet to come.

All pieces in the exhibition will be going into The Elephant Vanishes archive in the Photography and the Archive Research Centre based at LCC.

Also featured in the show is Collective, a creative writing magazine created by other students on the course. Conceived, edited, designed and printed by students and featuring a variety of writing formats, Collective engages with popular culture, music, relationships and travel.
