The Endless Circle by Raksha Patel

  • Hotel Elephant 1-5 Spare Street London, England, SE17 3EP United Kingdom (map)

Exhibition open: 4th - 22nd April 9am - 6pm

Private View: Saturday 7th April 6pm - 9pm

Raksha Patel’s series of drawings follow traditions of portraiture that capture the changing nature of beauty. They attempt to immortalise the illusion of perfection, however this quickly fall away as knarled wooden faces smile back at us. Their knotted expressions made up of plant matter conjure horror rather than charm. These drawings question the genre of portraiture and its function to preserve images through time, as even the foxed paper continues towards ruin as it disintegrates through the elements of sunlight and oxygen; components essential for life itself. The lithographs are earlier works that merge animal and human exploring socio-politics relating to work and lifestyle.

The exhibition will be open in our cafe at Spare Street till 22nd April, please join us for the private view on Saturday 7th April 6pm - 9pm.
